Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the dates?
Dates for 2014 will be June 16-20th.
2. What ages of children can participate?
We are looking for children going into grades 3-5.
3. What sets this program apart from other childcare?
Aside from a significant price break when compared with a private nanny or other summer camp, Sustainable Summer Break is an intentional summer program designed to engage children with the outdoors. The Bay Area is an amazingly beautiful ecosystem with a lot to offer any level of outdoorsman, from tike to experienced trekker. By creating an itinerary of diverse activities and exciting outdoor experiences, I hope that I can inspire a love of the environment in your child, and encourage them to play in a healthy and educational way.
4. How much experience do you have with children?
Christina has been a nanny in the Bay Area for 8 years, and babysat in Southern California prior to that. She has also taught swimming lessons, coached synchronized swimming, tutored, and led elementary schools on environmental field trips. She has experience with a wide age range of children, from infants to teenagers. She believes in encouraging critical thinking and teaching through inspiring curiosity. Alexandra is an aunt of two young children, as well an older sister to a 13 year old brother. She has been a nanny full time for the last 6 years and is an aspiring teacher currently completing her undergrad degree. She focuses on patience and creativity to inspire young people to find their passion.

6. What does my child need to bring?
Participants should bring a lunch, sunscreen, and a water bottle. They should dress in layers with sturdy shoes. On some days, a bathing suit and towel will be necessary. I will send an email out closer to the date of the session with a finalized itinerary and more detailed "packing list". I will have some books, arts and crafts supplies, and games, so you do not necessarily need your own, but feel free to bring something special to share, if you like.
7. Will you provide lunch?
No. To limit issues with food allergies and preferences, we will be asking that children bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Simple and healthy snacks will be provided and allergies will be taken into account.
8. When is payment due?
Payment will be due by Paypal upon confirmation of your spot. Please fill out a registration form using the registration tab above, and I will contact you via email within 24 hours with Paypal instructions.
9. What is included in my payment? Will I need to send any extra money with my child?
Your child will not be needing any extra money for admisisons prices or food, as the price quoted is all-inclusive. Your payment will cover admissions prices, daily pick ups and drop offs at your house, snacks, and payment for both nannies. The cost is about 1/3 of the price of hiring your own nanny at $15/hr.
